Located 183km far from Hanoi, Yen Bai is a mountain province, characterised by rugged mountainous scenery and green rice paddy fields in the valleys. The Hoang Lien Son mountain range runs through the province.

Yen Bai has a big advantage to develop tourism for both international and domestic tourists. The Thac Ba Lake becomes the important destination of tourism of the province, one of three largest man-made lakes in Vietnam.
